Autumn Delight!

 "Her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn-- that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness -- that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling." ~ Jane Austen, Persuasion

O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stained
With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit
Beneath my shady roof, there though may'st rest,
And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe;
And all the daughters of the year shall dance!
Sing now the lusty song of fruits and flowers.

"The narrow bud opens her beauties to
The sun, and love runs in her thrilling veins;
Blossoms hand round the brows of Morning,
and
Flourish down the bright cheek of modest Eve,
Till clust'ring Summer breaks forth into singing,
And feather'd clouds strew flowers round her
head.

"The spirits of the air live on the smells
Of fruit; and Joy, with pinions light, roves round
The garden, or sits singing in the trees."
Thus sang the jolly Autumn as he sat;
Then rose, girded himself, and o'er the bleak
Hills fled from our sight; but left his golden load.

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."

Spending Time With Nature

 "A walk in nature walks the soul back home." ~Mary Davis   These very words came to mind yesterday as I hiked along the trails of Calvert Cliffs State Park located in Lusby, Maryland. When I arrived around noon it was a pleasant 66°f with sunshine and a light breeze. Much of the Red Trail is tree lined and provides ample shade with a few open sky views alongside protected wetlands to and from the beach. Calvert Cliffs State Park Beach Pink Mountain Laurel blossoms brightened the landscape as turtles sunned on logs surrounded by water lily pads and their blooms. Bird songs and frog croaks filled the air with nature's praise. It was an absolute delight to the senses!  Mountain Laurel Blossoms Eastern Painted Turtle Spending time in nature offers many benefits for our health. Nature provides for us holistically as it nurtures our mental, physical, and emotional well-being. An Absolute Gem!

 "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." ~John Muir On more than one occasion, my beloved Dad has shared this insightful quote by John Muir, the eloquent Scottish born American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, and advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States. And every time I walk with nature this quote comes to remembrance due to its emphasis on the profound connection between humanity and nature.  Today, I experienced this first hand while driving back roads to avoid heavy highway traffic. Much to my delight, I drove past this lovely nature space called Patuxent Ponds Park located in Odenton, Maryland. The reflection of trees in the pond water beckoned me to come and spend some time with nature. I quickly made a mental note to stop on my way back. Upon arrival, while stepping out of my car, my first thought was, Wow! this place is an absolute gem!  Since I didn't have my journal with me, I made sure to take in a...

An August Evening

 "Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy that does not laugh and the greatness that does not bow before children." ~Khalil Gibran This evening, I drove to Sandy Point State Park to enjoy a peaceful walk along the shore and tree-lined paths. Occupied with my own thoughts, it didn't occur to me until I arrived at the park gate that it is Saturday, August 2nd, which is prime time for people to flock to the beach for fun and relaxation. The excessive heat and humidity of late have subsided for now, and the sweetness of summer invites us to come and bask in her sunshine and grace.   As I stepped out of my car, music filled the air, mingling with voices speaking languages unknown to me. One of the most remarkable aspects of living in Maryland is its rich representation of diverse cultures from around the world. In a moment of mindful reflection, I slowly walked along the rocky pebble path towards the restrooms feeling grateful to be here. Upon entering ...
